new conclusions

In total I surveyed 30 people, most of whom were female and between the ages of 20 and 30 years old. Spanish is the most common foreign language that people speak with English coming in at a close second. I was surprised at the variety of languages spoken; within this small sample 19 different languages are spoken. Another interesting result of the survey is that only 50% have trouble finding people to speak the language with but 70% would be interested in conversing with people online. Most of the people surveyed are interested in conversing with a native speaker about 1-3 times a week. Text and video chatting were the preferred method with asynchronous text and video posts trailing behind. The most surprising result of the survey is that 57% of people would prefer Converso to be a stand alone site, not a facebook application. This is a big factor in the design and structure that I will continue to think about over the weekend. Moving forward I think I will continue building a network-like site with perhaps a future goal of linking it to facebook to tab in to its member base. I’ll be working on some rough sketches for a new interface tomorrow that will hopefully go beyond the traditional setup of a social network. I want Converso to put more emphasis on live interaction and user generated content.
